European University of Cyprus

European University Cyprus (EUC) was founded in 2007 and developed out of Cyprus College, which was established in 1961. Today, EUC operates five Schools, namely, the School of Business Administration, School of Humanities, Social and Education Sciences, School of Law, School of Medicine, and the School of Sciences, with the mission to educate students for successful careers and life achievement, to understand and serve the needs of society, and to create knowledge through research and innovation. Research activity at EUC covers both basic and applied research, as well as the Arts. The University places strong emphasis on linking teaching with research and carrying out public outreach activities, aiming at increasing the interest of young people and the wider public in scientific endeavors. The research activity of the university as measured by its success in securing external research funding and authoring quality journal publications increased significantly in the last decade. EUC has an extensive portfolio of research and innovation projects, funded by the European Commission (i.e. Horizon2020, Erasmus+, Directorates General), the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation, United Nations, Max Planck Institute, European Space Agency, governmental bodies and private organizations. In the last 5 years, the University has accumulated more than 8.5M euros in research funding. Research activity is primarily carried out by a number of research centers, laboratories, and other kinds of specialized settings such as clinics and innovation centers

University of Cyprus

With around 7.000 students, 113 laboratories and 830 faculty and staff members, the University of Cyprus (UCY) is a young and rapidly expanding university (established in 1989). There are 7 faculties, 22 departments and 16 research units / centres, covering a broad spectrum within the life, social, natural and engineering sciences. UCY is the biggest employer in Cyprus for young graduates and researchers. It currently employs about 750 young scientists using external research funds. We are seeking and attracting new qualified scientists and researchers because our constant aim is to be the largest employers' organization for young researchers in Cyprus. UCY is considered the leading university and the most active research institution in Cyprus. UCY implemented a large number of research projects funded by the European Commission, the national Research and Innovation Foundation and several public and private Research Organizations. In 2020, research funding from external sources reached €26 million. UCY is currently participating in 348 projects. 153 are EU-funded projects under Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, Justice, Life, Cost Action, and Interreg. Within Horizon 2020 program, UCY ranks 1st in Cyprus with 149 research projects and with a total funding of over €72,9 million from January 2014, the start date of H2020 program until July 2021. UCY ranked 137th in securing funding among the nearly 40,300 organizations participating in the Program and 106th among all the academic institutions involved. This is an honorable distinction for UCY since it surpasses, in absolute numbers, other famous and much larger universities of Europe. In general, UCY excelled in all pillars of H2020 program. Since 2017, UCY secured 3 Teaming in Excellence projects (for the development of independent research centres aiming at becoming Centres of Research Excellence, two of these three grants are worth €15 million each. UCY ranked 1st in securing funding in the pillar “Spreading Excellence” from all organizations from the 27 WIDENING countries. Under this pillar, UCY secured 21 research projects with total funding of € 28.9 million (3 Teaming Phase 2 - € 23 million, 7 Teaming Phase 1 - € 1 million, 1 Era Chair - € 2.5 million, 4 Twinning - € 1.6 million and 8 Widening Fellowships -€ 1.211.647) Since the establishment of European Research Council (ERC) in 2007, UCY managed to win 18 ERC projects. More specifically, it was awarded 7 Starting Grants, 3 Consolidator Grants, 2 Advanced Grants, 6 Proof of Concept Grants and 1 Synergy Grant. These numbers are very impressive due to the fact that ERC funds only top researchers in Europe with excellence as the sole criterion for selection, helping them pursue great ideas at frontiers of knowledge.

University of UCLan Cyprus

is the first British University in Cyprus and an overseas campus of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), UK. UCLan was founded in 1828 and has a global partnership network, which extends to 125 countries. UCLan Cyprus is the winner of the 2013 InAVation Award for the most innovative education facility, in terms of its technological infrastructure, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The University consists of three schools, the School of Law, School of Sciences and the School of Busines & Management. Each school cultivates a culture of unique partnerships between academia, industry, public authorities and the community in order to facilitate and promote the utilization of state-of-the-art practice. The paid staff of UCLan Cyprus is 180 (51 academics, 59 STS and 70 professional support). UCLan Cyprus received several grants, including 9 successful Erasmus+ grants since 2014. Since 2021, UCLan Cyprus is a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), the world’s leading knowledge network for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece. The main campus is located in the centre of the city of Thessaloniki, and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. It comprises 10 faculties which consist of 40 schools and 1 single-School Faculty. Some educational and administrative facilities are located off campus for practical and operational reasons. A number of these facilities are located outside the city of Thessaloniki or even in other cities. About 88.283 students study at the Aristotle University, 77.198 in undergraduate programs and 6.588 in postgraduate programs. There are also 3.952 at Doctoral level. There are 1.682 faculty members. There are also 311 members of the Special Laboratory Teaching Personnel (S.L.T.P.). Faculty members are also assisted by 144 members of the Special Technical Laboratory Personnel (S.T.L.P.). The administration office consists of 278 permanent employees and 256 employees under a private law contract of indefinite duration.

University of Ioannina

Universidade de Coimbra

University of Pécs

The University of Pécs (UP) with its 20.000 students, more than 4.000 international students, 2.000 lecturers and researchers, 22 doctoral schools and 10 faculties is one of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary and the centre of knowledge in the South Transdanubian region. Its roots date back to 1367. The mission of UP is to build a bridge between the economy and science by supporting industry with its research capacity, support the technology transfer of the research results to create marketable solutions and exchange international experiences with research and educational institutions to create synergies. The university knowledge base can be interpreted along three dimensions: research results produced in the university environment & labs; teaching to train highly qualified labour force; business & technology transfer services to support the market introduction of innovations. Students can pursue their studies at the bachelor's level (BA/BSc), master's level (MA/MSc) or doctoral level (PhD, DLA). UP has started to develop its lilfelong learning programs and puts emphasis also on training in the colleges for advanced studies. Due to the credit system, first introduced in Hungary here in Pécs, an increasing number of Hungarian students participate in international study programs as an integral part of their education, the UP continuously expands and improves its co-operations with other universities and international research institutions to offer more opportunities for students, teachers and researchers. The university has also put a strong emphasis on integrating its courses given in foreign languages into undergraduate studies. Project based developments are supported by the Directorate of Grants of the Chancellory. Its Project Management Office employs numerous project managers, financial managers and assistants for initiating, preparing, managing and monitoring projects on national and international level on diverse fields. UP is active in Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, Interreg, V4 Grants programs and some other specific EU calls as partner or lead partner. The University of Pécs is member of EDUC - European Digital UniverCity, one of the first 17 "European Universities“ funded in 2019 by the European Commission with the aim to increase the international competitiveness of European higher education through a shared, integrated, long-term joint strategy for education with links to research and innovation, and to society. The cooperation aims at strengthening strategic partnerships across the EU between the involved higher education institutions, and enable students to obtain a degree by combining studies in several EU countries and contribute to the international competitiveness of European universities. EDUC alliance develops and tests a model, which can give a new direction to the common European higher education, meanwhile aiding the visibility of certain international partner institutions.

Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania

Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania is the newest independent institution of Hungarian university education Transylvania, Romania, with the task of nurturing European culture and transmitting its values while preserving the centuries old traditions of Hungarian university education in Transylvania and its basic scientific and moral values. The University has 4 faculties in 3 study centers, running 28 BSc programs with staff of 283 and about 2000 students. Activities and experience Teachers of Sapientia University regularly use two learning platforms - Moodle and Neptun - for increasing efficiency of educational communication. Moreover, a group of teachers and researchers investigates new ways of incorporating ICT tools in education, specifically methods of enhancing two-way educational communication in order to create computer-supported cooperative learning environments. Results are disseminated at international conferences and scientific publications.
